The project involves development of alternatives to extend Park Place from Allied Way to Nash Street and grade separate the new extension from the UPRR and BNSF spur lines that serve an oil refinery adjacent to the project site located in the City of El Segundo.
The existing UPRR and BNSF storage yard tracks and spurs are located at the west and east end of the project, respectively. Alternatives studied include a grade separation at each crossing location or relocation of the UPRR or BNSF tracks to one corridor for a single grade separation. Project elements and responsibilities included the following:
• Project management and coordination with project stakeholders and subconsultants
• Alignment studies and development of multiple underpass alternatives
• Oversight of utilities research, and relocation analysis, right of way requirements development and environmental, traffic, geotechnical and hazardous materials investigations
• Preliminary design for roadway and structures elements
• Preliminary roundabout design
• Bridge Advance Planning Studies for each alternative
• Development of a Project Study Report equivalent
• 30% design for the locally preferred alternative that includes a roundabout at the Park Place/Allied Way intersection
