The project is being delivered through the design-build process with a cost of $20 million and will reconfigure the Union/Patsaouras Plaza Busway station boarding island to improve bus operating efficiency and enhance pedestrian transit connectivity between Patsaouras Plaza and the El Monte Busway.
Improvements include widening of the I-10 / S El Monte Busway Bridge and constructing a new pedestrian ramp and bridge to connect the busway to Patsaouras Plaza. As the prime design consultant, NCM is responsible for the following specific project elements:
• Design management, including coordination with architectural and mechanical consultants
• Coordination with Caltrans for design and permit approvals
• Utility relocation design and coordination, including a Caltrans fiber optic line and associated infrastructure
• Local road improvements
• Bridge widening and a new pedestrian bridge
• Traffic signal removal and modifications
• Drainage improvements
• Complex stage construction and traffic handling
• Coordination of electrical and mechanical components for lighting, communications and pedestrian bridge elevators
• Civil, roadway and structural design and development of plans and specifications
• Continued design support during construction
